![]() Located in Lawrence, Kansas, Kansas University is the oldest public university in the state and the flagship institution of the University of Kansas System. With a rich history of athletic success, the university's teams compete in the Big 12 Conference. Kansas University's men's basketball team is one of the most successful in college basketball history, with a record 12 national championships and 32 Final Four appearances. Bill Self has been coaching the team since 2003. The women's basketball team is also successful, with two national championships and 11 Final Four appearances, led by coach Brandon Schneider since 2015. Kansas University's athletic success is not limited to basketball, with winning teams in football, baseball, softball, volleyball, soccer, and track and field. The football team has two national championships and ten bowl game appearances, led by coach Lance Leipold since 2021. Kansas University takes pride in its athletic program, with the Jayhawk as the mascot, blue and white as the colors, and athletic teams known as the Jayhawks. The teams have won a total of 12 national championships, 22 Big 12 championships, and produced 49 Olympic athletes and 281 All-Americans.
